<\/a><\/b><\/em><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nMahmut Gazi Yasargil<\/strong> was born in Turkey on July 6, 1925. He finished high school and university in Ankara between 1931-1943. In 1944 and 1945, he studied for two semesters in medical school at the Friederick von Schiller University in Germany. Then from May of 1945 until December of 1949, he studied in medical school at the University of Basle, Switzerland, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1950. <\/span><\/big><\/em><\/p>\n In 1951 and 1952, he did his residency in internal medicine and general surgery at Interlaken Hospital. In November and December of 1952, he did research on brain anatomy in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Basle. From 1953 to 1973, he worked in various positions at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 1973, he became a Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the same university. For an interim in 1965-67, he also worked in the University of Vermont (Burlington), USA. In 1994 he moved to America and worked as a Professor of Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.\u00a0\u00a0In 1999, he was featured as neurosurgeon of the century (1950-1999) in the traditional Neurosurgery journal of the Neurosurgeons\u2019 Congress. Professor Mahmut Gazi Ya\u015fargil returned to the land of his birth in 2014. He is currently leading the Brain Surgery Department of Yedditepe University in Istanbul.\u00a0<\/span><\/big><\/em><\/p>\n He has performed over 7500 surgeries and has taught his secrets to over 3000 neurosurgeons. He designed his own surgical tools.\u00a0<\/span><\/big><\/em>\u00a0He is an honorary citizen in three countries (Turkey, Argentina and the USA [Texas]). He has authored 13 monographs and nearly 340 scholarly articles.
